Dream Big Read

As you know a major part of our current School Development Plan is to further promote reading and stories and to develop a real enjoyment of reading for all our children. You will remember that we   held a ‘Reading ‘ themed week in September during which there was  a parents workshop and the presentation from this is on the school website.

In order to maximise the impact of this area of development we would like to be able to buy a large quantity of high quality children’s books. Of course good quality books are not cheap and school budgets are not generous at the moment!

So we are aiming to raise the funds ourselves with a variety of fun events and sponsorship. I know that a number of businesses are keen to support local community charities so I ask that you enquire at your place of work as to whether they would be able to provide a donation or some ‘match funding’ support to help us this good cause.

Events:

  • Quiz night on Friday 1st March
  • Cake sales (8th Feb and 13th March) with cakes made by the children in school!
  • Pancake Breakfast on Tuesday 5th March
  • 5p pieces in a bottle – 1 bottle per class to fill with 5psWe are of course keen to hear of any other ideas that would support this appeal.

We aim to raise £5000 in order to be able to achieve our goal of purchasing high quality children’s books which will appeal to all our young readers. There is a Totalizer by the office entrance door soon so that we can all see the progress we are making. Please let me or your class teacher know if you think you or your workplace can help us in any way.

Spencer Alves in Owl Class has spent the half term holiday designing and making a 'Money Tree' for us. This is an amazing achievement and we thank Spencer and his family very much for all their hard work.
