Important information regarding Punctuality and Attendance

Dear Parents,

I am writing to inform you of our new procedures regarding punctuality and attendance that will be starting after half term.

As I am sure you are aware it is a legal requirement for parents to ensure that their children attend school. There are only two reasons for a child’s absence from school as listed on the government website (www.gov.uk/school-attendance-absence):

You can only allow your child to miss school if either:

  • they’re too ill to go in
  • you’ve got advance permission from the school

We ask that you please ensure that your child is in their classroom before the 8.55am bell rings. It is a legal requirement for schools to take a register first thing in the morning. If your child arrives after 8.55am it will be classified as ‘late’, if they arrive after 9.10am (after the register has closed) it will be classified as an unauthorised absence. If you are late you must report to the school office before taking your child down to class or Nursery. If your child is ill please ensure that you inform the school office before 8.45am. If we do not hear from you by 9.10am, we will be following recent safeguarding guidance and so will call the numbers on your child’s contact list in order to clarify that your child is safe. Thank you in advance for your support in this important matter.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

Mrs J Baker
